Practical Assignment

Generating Ideas

In this assignment we have been asked to create our own 1 minute 2D animation using Adobe Flash. Here I will describe the process from generating ideas to producing the animation itself.

2D animations which appeal to me:

Adventure time,
A show about Finn the Human and Jake the Dog going on adventures in the land of Oo.

Kim Possible,
A show about a teen cheerleader who goes on missions with her best friend Ron, to save the world.

These are animated programs which take a long time to make, as I only have a short time to produce this animation, I had to think of simpler ideas.

Ideas:

  • A moving and meowing cat animation. This could be done by having a couple of separate drawings of a cat and placing them in an order so it looks like the cat is moving.
  • Fireworks and sparks with different colors which explode when they cross each other. Done by drawing out each individual frame.
I decided to go with the fireworks idea because its a simple idea which I can make by drawing out each individual frame on Flash.Using the olive skin, I can see the ghost of each previous drawing so I can animate the lines smoothly. I will start with two different color lines which will move across the screen and make a small spark when they touch. Then I will have different colors come into it which will make a slightly bigger spark. This will continue to happen and sparks will get bigger and bigger each time until the end when it finishes will many different colors coming together in the center to make a giant firework.

To make the animation I started with a blank stage on flash and drew a small blue line in the corner.

For every frame I drew the line a little bit further up. I made it twist and turn across the screen.

I then introduced another color line and made them cross paths in the middle.

I made the two first lines sly off stage and introduced 3 new lines.

I created a firework with the yellow and red lines by drawing sparks as it went together.

To finish I ended with a bang. Making a big firework which covered the whole screen.

I then saved this as a giff. This is so I could import it into premier pro to add titles and sound.

I found firework sound effects on https://www.freesound.org/. This allows me to use public domain sound effects.

I then also added titles and credits and exported the animation as a movie from premier pro.

This is the final animation.
